he National Commission for Women (NCW) has asked the Central government to restrain the increasing fake NRI marriages by signing protocols with some foreign nations, where the Indians prefers to marriage. Despite of increasing fake marriage cases to Non-resident Indian, the number and trend of the NRI marriages have been rising surprisingly in the country. The State of Punjab has been registered on the top as per NRI marriages and also marked top in the hoaxing NRI marriages as per reports of the NCW.

The NCW has suggested the Centre to sign protocols with some foreign countries especially US, UK and Canada to curb the cheating. Commission has also asked to state government of Punjab to take quick and stern action against those found in any sort of involvement, as told by NCW chairperson Girija Vyas to the reporters.

Girija Vyas has also informed about ‘what steps can be taken for domestic violence against women and children?’ “Now, in such cases the process begins within three days of complaining and the justice comes out within three months under the Domestic Violence Protection Act”, said Vyas.

“This Act is not against the men but it has been envisaged to ensure security to the women and to restrict the men's excesses against women” added Vyas. She has also informed about the steps have been taken to stop the misuse of this Act at any level.

In terms of, preventing sham NRI marriages, Overseas Indian Affairs (OIA) Minister Vayalar Ravi has said that Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has sent a request to Overseas Indian Affairs Ministry to make an amendment in Indian Passport Act as per to enforced NRI grooms to paste photograph of their partner in the passport to check the problem of deceptive marriages.

If any sort of deception found in the marriage, the investigation authorities feel no discomfort in taking action against the accused and can sort the proper native address of the bride in India.

The OIA Ministry has also directed to all Indian states to make mandatory of all marriage registration by making law in the state. States should also publish a guidance booklet on 'Marriages to Overseas Indians' in the welfare of society, said Ministry in a report.

An inter-ministerial sub-committee has also been set up to discuss the possibility to include clauses regarding doing bilateral agreements between India and foreign authorities to defend the fraudulent marriage victims.
